Protection of ischemia Reperfusion injury of grafts in transplantation Using siRNA

Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury occurs in clinical organ transplantation, which results in graft dysfunction and rejection. I/R injury is initiated at a period of hypoxia, followed by reperfusion of the organ after placement into the recipient, resulting in substantial damage to the transplanted organ. This includes endothelial cell apoptosis 1, parenchymal dysfunction 2, and increased immunogenecity 3. ToleroTech developed a new strategy for prevent I/R injury using siRNA-solution to block the above pathological processes. siRNA treatment, resulted in 100% survival of lethal I/R. Tissue histopathology showed an overall reduction in neutrophil infiltrates, tubuli vacuolization and infarction, cast formation and edema in I/R mice
